About Me

Hello, welcome, and thank you for visiting my website!

My name is Helen. I am a British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) accredited and Yoga Alliance Registered (RYT) yoga teacher, and a qualified Yoga Sports Coach, with Yoga Sports Science®. I am also a Level 3 member of Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS).

Yoga has been part of my life for nearly twenty years, having first "discovered" it through fitness training. I quickly found that practising yoga was a great means to take a pause and relax from a busy and stressful day job, and that the benefits were a really positive influence on my life, both physically and mentally. Not only has my yoga practice helped me keep physically active and fit, it has also helped me cultivate and maintain a calm and relaxed attitude to life.

Now, I have had two kids, given up the stressful day job, and spend my working time doing what I love most - meeting interesting people and helping them to feel better physically and mentally!

I work one2one or in groups with people who range from pre-school children to adults (for general health and well-being), and from elite athletes (to improve performance) to those who wish to use yoga more therapeutically (to help them manage their condition and feel better). My clients are usually based in South Hertfordshire (Potters Bar, Cuffley, Northaw, Brookmans Park), Barnet, Enfield and North London.

When teaching yoga I apply what I have learnt from some truly amazing yoga teachers, and through my own practice, to help students work safely and realise their maximum potential benefit from each yoga session.

I believe it is my job as a teacher to offer you a ‘yoga tool kit’ by showing you yoga practices, techniques and teachings, which are relevant to you and that you can easily apply to your life, as you need them, both on and off the yoga mat. It is also my job to create a practice for you that is appropriate, safe and enjoyable, but also challenging, and to guide you through this practice keeping you injury free and feeling better at the end of your session.

How the body 'works' fascinates me. My anatomy and physiology studies have given me an in depth knowledge of the body's structure, systems, functioning, mechanics and alignment, as well as an understanding of how yoga postures and practices affect the body and mind; and how even very subtle changes in, for example, body alignment and the breath, can have a profound effect on physical and mental health.

One of my greatest satisfactions is seeing my students at the end of a session looking 'lighter', less weighed-down, more relaxed, softer and calm, having opened, released and de-stressed, and having unlocked a little more of their untapped potential to take with them when they leave.
